Police with the New Mexico Motor Transportation Division found 1,200 pounds of pot packed in cans labeled as spinach during a stop at the Gallup port of entry.
An inspector noticed that only a few of the cans were labeled and that the weight printed on the side of the can didn’t match the actual weight.
A closer look during last Friday’s bust revealed the canned drugs, which were worth an estimated $1.5 million. Read the rest of this entry »

Two bullet-ridden bodies have been found at the foot of a monument in the violent Mexican border city of Ciudad Juarez, one of them partially stuffed into a large pot.
Police haven’t identified the bodies and had no immediate suspects. Mexico’s drug cartels have gone to increasingly gruesome lengths to intimidate their rivals, often torturing and beheading their victims. The bodies were discovered before dawn at the bottom of the Juan de Onate monument on John Paul boulevard.
One of the bodies was sitting inside a large pot commonly used for cooking pork, with his legs sticking out.The other had his hands tied.
Ciudad Juarez, across the border from El Paso, Texas, has become a battleground for rival drug cartels, with citizens waking up nearly every day to news of shootouts and killings. Read the rest of this entry »

SARAJEVO (AFP) – Bosnian police have impounded a pigeon after discovering prisoners used it to smuggle drugs into one of the country’s highest security jails, an official said Thursday.
“The guards suspected the animal might be involved in drug smuggling once they noticed four prisoners visibly intoxicated shortly after the pigeon landed on a prison window,” Zenica prison official Josip Pojavnik told AFP.
All four inmates had tested positive for heroin, said Pojavnik, adding disciplinary proceedings had been launched against the inmates.

OTTAWA (Reuters) – Canada is one of the top three world suppliers of the psychedelic drug ecstasy, and a significant supplier of marijuana to the United States, the government admitted on Friday.
A survey of organized crime by Criminal Intelligence Services Canada found that Canada, the Netherlands and Belgium were the primary sources of ecstasy, an illegal drug that’s popular at clubs, raves and rock concerts.
“Canada continues to be a major producer for both domestic and international markets, exporting significant quantities primarily to the U.S. and to a lesser extent, Japan, Australia and New Zealand,” the report said. Read the rest of this entry »

The money found hidden inside walls, suitcases and closets in one of Mexico City’s wealthiest neighborhoods came from the profits of methamphetamines sold in the United States, [DEA chief Karen Tandy] said.
